Indian Arrowheads And Artifacts, Stone, Slate, Tools

MISC. STONE AND SLATE PAGE

ALL TIME PERIODS

This page is for arrowheads, artifacts, bar weights, adze, hoes, atl atl, celts, spuds, gorgets, pendants, picks, gouges, and many other native indian utility tools. These Artifacts are also beleived to have been utilized in about all time periods. Relics made from slate, stone, quartz and granite were used in all periods. Over the decades of archaeological research, Archaeologists have worked to identify categories of prehistoric tools, many categories created by comparison to modern tools because no written records existed to tell us what they are.

Today, Archaeologists use a number of supporting data: deposits left on the working edges, marks of usewear on working edges, and experimental replication. An adze (sometimes spelled adz) is a wood-working tool, similar to an axe. The shape of the adze is sometimes the same as an axe, broadly rectangular, but the blade is attached at a right-angle to the handle rather than straight across. To use an axe, you chop down vertically through a piece of wood: for an adze, you swoop the blade horizontally across the plane of the wood to strip out thin layers.

Stone hoes, also called chipped stone hoes, are a type of stone tool artifact that is found on prehistoric archaeological sites throughout the world. Hoes were generally chipped out of a flint or chert stone, and then bound to a short wooden handle using twine, mastic, sinew or other organic materials. They were typically hafted as Axes were, with the blade at right angles to the handle, to facilitate overhand digging.
